We have discussed general information about the structure of the hip bone as well as peculiarities of the structure of the iliac bone and pubic bone in the previous PDF notes.
Let us examine the structure of the ischium (os ischii). It has two large parts:
body of the ischium (corpus ossis ischii)
ramus of the ischium (ramus ossis ischii)
At the point of transition of one part to the other a thickening is formed — the ischial tuberosity (tuber ischiadicum).
From this tuberosity extends the ischial spine (spina ischiadica), which is the divider between the two notches.
These are the greater sciatic notch (incisura ischiadica major) and the lesser sciatic notch (incisura ischiadica minor).
Connecting together, the ischium and the pubis form the obturator foramen (foramen obturatum).
